“The Gateway to Lord Vishnu” is what “Haridwar” a pious city located in Uttarakhand literally means. The perfect time to visit this city is in between October and April during which climate is cool and pleasant with, the temperature ranging from a maximum of 17 degrees Celsius to a minimum of about 6 degrees Celsius.

1. By train:

Haridwar possesses its own railway station. The Haridwar Railway Station is well connected to all major cities and towns in India.

2. By road:

There are a number of bus services that connect Haridwar to major cities in the country such as Delhi, Jaipur, Gurgaon, Manali etc.

3. By air:

The nearest airport to Haridwar is located in Dehradun. The Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is well connected to major cities in the country. Taxi services are available from this airport to Haridwar.

c. Religious significance:

According to the scriptures this city has also been called as “Kapilsthana, Gangadwara, and Mayapuri”.  It has also been found that in the Mahabharata when sage Dhaumya explains to Yudhisthira about the tirthas he refers to this city along with Gangadwar and Kankhal. Additionally, the Mahabharata also states that it was in this sacred city that Agastya Rishi did meditate with the help of his wife Lopamudra, the princess of Vidharba. It was also in this city that Sage Kapila established an ashram.
