According to popular folklore there lived a wealthy man at a distance of 300 km from the city of Allahabad on the banks of the River Ganga. Now he happened to be a childless married man who was desperate to have one. So since he was an ardent devotee of Lord Hanuman he felt that by building a temple dedicated to the “Monkey God” he would be blessed with a child. So to fulfil his ambition he initially built a statue in honour of Lord Hanuman. In the meantime apparently Lord Hanuman appeared in the devotee’s dreams and assured him that he would definitely have a child provided he placed the statue in Allahabad. It is this statue that was then developed into a temple dedicated to Hanuman.
